Jumpsuit: Thrifted in Austin, Texas
Keep your eyes away from my feet. Not a usual way to start a blog post, but in this case it's very true. We were apparently camping in the city of mosquitos, and the night before these pics were taken I was eaten alive by them. Roughly 80 bites between both feet, eeeek. Try walking around all day with that. We were set to do a food tour that day, so no way was I missing out on that. I stumbled through the whole thing, and paid for it later, while having some type of allergic reaction to the bites! Later on we were held hostage in our tent by the mosquitos, and I ended up sleeping the second half of the night in the car. Suffice to say it was miserable, and probably what I'll be remembering about New Orleans.
But back to the food tour, because food. If someone tells you to eat a Beignet in New Orleans, be warned, they are actually just funnel cake (which I mentioned in a previous post); a bland deep fried dough covered in icing sugar. Very disappointing. The jumbalaya won hands down, and runner up was the Muffaletta, a sandwich made with meats, cheese, and olive salad. Very Italian. We tried seafood gumbo, and that was awful. My expectations were high, and I really didn't enjoy that dish.
As to the jumpsuit, I picked this up at a thrift store in Austin, and I think the next time I'll wear it with a belt; my waist seems to be missing! But it worked well with the New Orleans humidity and heat. And it's kind of fun having flowy, pant legs.
