A couple weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Alpa from The Drop In cafe in Boronia. The special thing about this cafe is it's tucked inside the local Aussie Veterans Op Shop. I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than lunching and op shopping, and the ability to combine the two is brilliant! I originally heard about this op shop back in June, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to get here. Alpa and her husband Andy are absolute delights, and have been able to live out their idea. Alpa is a long time op shopper, and from what I understand has a huge collection of clothing and housewares she has thrifted over the years. If the decor of the cafe is anything to go by, I believe it!
Now, let's talk about the food. Alpa and Andy provide all home cooked meals, which change on a day to day basis. I imagine the locals visit every day to take part in the delicious, healthy and inexpensive lunch meals. I had a chicken and pesto lasagne, with a generous salad for only $10, and my boyfriend had the butter chicken. You'll also be unable to go past the coffee and cakes they have on offer!
Alpa and Andy provide a very warm, generous and welcoming environment, and we ended up visiting for over an hour! I'd definitely recommend you take a drive to the outer parts of Melbourne and visit these two. The op shop is also filled with goodies, quite a large one for the area and I came away with a couple dresses and housewares. I also left behind a pair of roller skates that were in my size...I'm still thinking of them, do you think that classifies as a major regret?
Would love to hear if you make it to Boronia, and visit this wonderful place! And if you're free Saturday October 8th, Alpa is holding a Recycled Designer and Vintage Fashion party in Boronia. Find Alpa at The Drop In Cafe on Instagram for details. Unfortunately I'll be in QLD for a mini holiday, and I'm shattered I'm going to miss it!
